The Erath County Volunteer Fire Rescue was formed in 2003 to provide services to the unincorporated areas of Erath County. Operation began on October 1st, 2003 after months of preparation, building, and training took place prior to this date. 

The department current employees a full time Coordinator and 10 part time paid personnel. The volunteer membership is capped at 25 volunteers. 

In 2007, the department ran 449 calls including motor vehicle accidents, fires, rescues, and even 1 plane crash.
